Kitty Crawford is a failed actress. With her metaphorical tail tucked between her legs, Kitty comes home to Asheville and has to find a job. Stat. With her most prolific life skill being able to cry on demand, it’s slim pickings for employment.

But when Kitty stumbles across a discarded newspaper and sees an opening for something called a Personal Mourner, she’s intrigued and brings her resume in. With some misgivings on the owner’s part, she’s hired.

Her first job involves acting as the bereaved girlfriend of one newly deceased Chase McCormick. Considering the girlfriend traveled a lot and most people thought Chase was lying about her, Kitty slides into her new role with ease. However, the McCormick family is a disaster. Fond of guns and booze and meals that resemble roadkill, Kitty isn’t quite sure this is the job for her.

But when she begins to stumble over things that make it look like maybe Chase’s death wasn’t an accident, Kitty has to turn up the heat on her new-fledged mourning career and keep acting as if her life depends on it.

Because it does.

It’s definitely curtains for May’s client. He’s exited Stage Left for the last time. May Ferth just wants to do a good job in her role as fake girlfriend. But there are strange goings on at the funeral. Shifty characters whispering secrets in shadowed corners, and a truly yummy understudy for the dead guy implying that May might have had something to do with his friend’s unscripted exit.

May might be a thirty-three-year-old ex-community theater actress on her second career, but she comes from a family of cops. And, despite her talent for acting, she has a lot more Detective in her than Diva.

The villain thinks he can threaten her and she’ll fold like last week’s panned play. Clearly, he hasn’t read the day’s script changes. May and her little dog Shakespeare are on the case. Though, they might take a little direction from the Private Investigator who believes that May’s client was murdered, and fully intends to prove it.

Rosie, a C-list actress, is blackballed in Hollywood after an unfortunate incident with her agent that made its way to YouTube. With a reputation of being a troublemaker, and after ending up on the front page of a few tabloids, not even the local Dollar General store will hire her to twirl their sign.

Her last resort to pay the bills is to take a job as a professional mourner in her hometown of Asheville, North Carolina.

Hired to deliver the eulogy at the funeral of Harold Baumgartner, the most despised man in the 55-and-older community of Misty Haven, Rosie isn't prepared for the emotional turmoil in dealing with the hate the deceased earned during his living years. Not even the pastor of his church has a pleasant thing to say about him.

But a connection between her and Harold makes Rosie take a closer look at his life, and she finds things are not always what they seem. "My passion is sitting down and writing a female heroine you'd want to be BFF's with."

S. E. Babin

S.E. Babin has a passion for writing books with a paranormal twist. Whether it's romance or mystery, she loves taking the norm and turning it into the extraordinary. Her love of reading turned into a curious exploration to see whether or not she could write her own novel. Beginning with discarded pages of angsty novels and a slightly popular reimagining of Beowulf's Grendel in her high school English class, Sheryl spent way too much time in the library, killing any chance of her becoming a cheerleader or anything even remotely cool.

"Laughter is the greatest gift I can give a reader. The highest reward they give to me is in accepting it."

Sam Cheever

USA Today Bestselling Author Sam Cheever writes mystery and suspense, creating stories that draw you in and keep you eagerly turning pages. Known for writing great characters, snappy dialogue, and unique and exhilarating stories, Sam is the award-winning author of 80+ books.

Blah, blah, blah… Also, she has 15 dogs. That’s why she puts dogs into most of her stories. Because dogs make great characters and…let’s face it…Sam has tons of experience to share. (Especially about dog poo…she has LOTS of experience with that!)

"Never be ashamed to read what makes you happy."

K.M. Waller

Kizzie Waller, who also writes as K.M. Waller, lives in Florida with her husband, two kids, and geriatric cat (seriously, he's 19). When she’s not reading, writing, or chasing her kids around the house, she loves to binge television dramas and mysteries.

"I love writing fun and flirty mysteries. If you love books with a dash of spice and twist of whodunit, you're going to love my work!"

Stephanie Damore

Stephanie Damore is mystery author with a soft spot for romance and humor, too. She loves all things girlie with a dollop of danger, has a strong affinity for the color pink (especially in diamonds and champagne), and, not to brag, but chocolate and her are in a pretty serious relationship. Her books feature fearless females, a little bit of sass, a few laughs, and a whole lot of whodunit. She hopes her stories keep you guessing and laughing all the way until the end.

"My dream has always been to write stories about perfectly imperfect characters whom readers could identify with, want to share a cup of coffee with, and hopefully, never forget."

Ava Mallory

AVA MALLORY has been a grade school teacher, a psychiatric technician, a dementia unit nurse manager, and a hospice nurse. She has embarrassed herself in front of handsome celebrities, won vocal contests much to the chagrin of her children, survived a major earthquake, and nearly drowned when she mistakenly thought a YMCA lifeguard asked her to dive into the deep end on her first day of swim lessons. She and her eternally annoyed children share their home with a massive collection of books and a never-ending supply of new book ideas.

AVA is best known for what she calls her Mysteries with Heart. She loves a great madcap adventure with lovable, yet ornery and sometimes precocious characters, who play hard, laugh often, never mind their own business, bicker, squabble, and tease relentlessly, but never forget that deep down they fiercely love each other, even if they can't bring themselves to admit it.

"I’ve always wanted to be a writer. I just never found something that gave me enough passion to actually make it happen—until my mother died. I wrote my first book to allow others to know her the way I did.”

CAROLYN RIDDER ASPENSON

Carolyn Ridder Aspenson writes mysteries and contemporary romances featuring imperfect women with a flair for telling it like it is. Her stories focus on relationships whether they’re between friends, family members, couples, townspeople or strangers because ultimately, it’s relationships that make a story. She writes the Angela Panther Mystery Series, The Inn at Laurel Creek contemporary romance novella series and the Lily Sprayberry Realtor Cozy Mystery Series.

Carolyn is also the founder of the Facebook author and reader collective, Sleuthing Women—Read. Sleuth. Solve. Repeat. A place for readers to connect with an exclusive group of women authors of female sleuth mysteries.

Now an empty-nester, she lives in the Atlanta suburbs with her husband, two Pit Bull-Boxer mix dogs and two cantankerous cats, but you’ll often find her at a local coffee shop people watching (and listening), or as she likes to call it, plotting her next novel.
