Getting to Know Ann Omasta
Ann Omasta is a USA Today bestselling author. She writes for the Gold Coast Retrievers series and her book will be releasing September 21st! You can learn more about Ann and her book here.
Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.
I grew up in Muncie, Indiana. My hometown is sometimes referred to as ‘Middletown,’ because it was considered to be a ‘typical American city’ by the Middletown studies.
Muncie’s claims to fame are… Jim Davis, the creator of Garfield (the world’s favorite lasagna-eating cartoon cat), lives in Muncie. Ball State University is near the center of Muncie. Famous alumni of BSU include David Letterman, Sutton Foster, Joyce DeWitt, and Ann Omasta (Haha!).
Although I have lived as far south as Key Largo, Florida (where I met my hubby) and as far north as Maine, I returned to the Midwest to settle and raise my family.
What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance?
Sweet romance is such a lovely and inspiring genre. It leaves readers smiling and lets us escape into a place where problems and tension still exist, yet we are consistently rewarded with a happily ever after (HEA) ending. In this day and age, the world definitely needs more HEAs.
Who or what inspired you to become an author?
We live in unprecedented times where anyone with a solid idea and an internet connection can upload a book for sale. After college, I flailed around from job-to-job for quite a while, trying to find my passion. It’s so rewarding to share my stories with the world, I now can’t imagine NOT being an author. For me, it really is the best job in the world.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?
Probably hopping from one unsatisfying job to the next because nothing else I found ever made me feel as fulfilled as writing does.
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!
Yes! Two giant, fluffy Newfies have claimed me as their human. They are the inspiration for my sweet romance novella, Goofy Newfies. Rocky and Cheerio are siblings from the same litter of puppies, but they couldn’t be more opposite in personality. Rocky wants to snuggle all the time and Cheerio is all about toys. They both love food, belly rubs, and stealing unsuspecting hearts.
Have you found your own real life happily ever after?
Thankfully, yes. The hubster and I just celebrated our twentieth anniversary!
What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.
Just one? I can’t decide. Honestly, I think all of the books I read impact my life to some degree. I try to read a few chapters before bed every night because I love escaping into the exciting worlds that talented authors create for us to visit. I enjoy visiting some more than others, of course, but I always appreciate the opportunity to dive into someone else’s imagination.
