Getting to Know Liwen Y. Ho
Liwen Y. Ho writes sweet and inspirational contemporary romance infused with heart, humor, and a taste of home (her Asian roots). She loves makeovers of all kinds, especially those of the heart and mind. You can learn more about Liwen and her book here.
Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.
I was born in Taiwan and immigrated to California when I was five. I’ve lived in the Bay Area since then, and am currently raising my family in a neighboring city from where I grew up. A fun fact about my city is that less than 10% of the population smokes, so it’s a great place to live and breathe.
What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?
I love writing sweet romances because they’re all about “the feels”. I enjoy focusing on a couple’s emotional growth and helping them fall in love. The more warm and fuzzy emotions there are, the better!
Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I’ve enjoyed reading and writing since I was a child (I could devour 3 novels in a day then!). I didn’t seriously consider becoming an author until my hubby encouraged me to enter a contest about five years ago. Since then, he’s been my number one fan (even though he’s not a romance reader), and supports me 100% in my author career.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?
Prior to becoming an author (and stay at home mom of two), I was a therapist. Helping people make changes in their lives and grow personally is another passion of mine, so I would probably still be pursuing that path if I hadn’t start writing books. Now I get the best of both worlds because I can help my characters change and grow!
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!
Our family had a sweet cocker spaniel for ten years named Sparkle. We currently have a 70-gallon saltwater fish tank which is my hubby’s hobby. We (along with our neighbors) also feed about a dozen stray cats who keep populating the area with kittens every year. I’m also Auntie to my fur-nephew, Thor, a rescued black lab/pit bull mix.
Have you found your own real life happily ever after?
I have most definitely found my own real life happily ever after (plus all the adventures that two munchkins bring)! I thank God that my hubby is the first man I ever kissed, and he’s been the most patient and loving husband and father I could have hoped for. We are complete opposites (he’s an ENTP; I’m a ISFJ) who have learned (and are still learning) to work together and appreciate one another, and having lots of fun along the way!
What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.
Other than the Bible, I’d have to say Francine River’s book, Redeeming Love. (Her book, The Atonement Child, was amazing, too.) She’s one of my favorite authors because she writes with such an eloquent, almost poetic style, and her stories resound with truth and grace.
