Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.
I grew up in Roanoke, Virginia and I currently live in South Riding, VA – in Loudoun County. A fun fact about my hometown of Roanoke, Virginia is that it has the largest free-standing star in the world poised high on a mountain in town. You can see if from most of the surrounding valley.
What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?
I love coming up with a wonderful moment when my hero and heroine meet. I like to tell an emotional story, so I love the emotional journey that the couple takes as they are falling in love.
Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I had been working with other authors as a personal assistant, and editor and eventually was asked to write some draft manuscripts for an author. One of my friends asked why I was writing for myself at that point, and I was intrigued. I had a story niggling in my mind, wanting to be told, and so I put fingers to keyboard and started writing.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?
I’m not sure. I’ve done a number of things in my life. I worked 12 years in management consulting, helping DoD clients implement computer systems. After that, I spent 10 years homeschooling my kids. During that time, I also volunteered my time with our local youth sports leagues when my kids played, both soccer and baseball, and I also currently work 5-10 hours a week at my daughter’s dance studio in addition to my writing. I can’t not be doing something, so I’m sure I would have found another endeavor to fill my time.
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!
We have one cat whose name is Shadow. He hates me. Really, he doesn’t like me. The day we got him, he decided that he was my son’s cat. He has since expanded his word to include my younger daughter, but he could do without the rest of us. Before him, I had a cat named Cheney who lived 18 ½ years. Now that cat loved me and would follow me around the house.
Have you found your own real life happily ever after?
I met my husband my first week working at my first job out of college. We started dating about 9 months later and 2 years after that, we were married. We’ve been married 24 years and have 3 kids – 21, 18, and 13.
What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.
Through homeschooling my kids, I gained a new appreciation for adolescent fiction, mainly historical fiction. Carry On, Mr. Bowditch was one of the favorite books I read on my homeschool journey with my kids. It’s based on the real life Captain Bowditch who was instrumental in defining procedures that are still used today in navigation. It has its own love story in it. I have read that book several times and still cry every time. It’s a wonderful journey starting with a young boy and following him through his life.
