Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.
My father was Air Force, so I spent a great deal of time before I was 7 years old, moving around from place to place about every two years. I was born in Montana, spent time in Korea and Florida before we settled near Langley AFB in Virginia. I’ve lived here in Virginia since then. Though there is constant jet noise from the Air Force Base, it’s a very peaceful place to live. The area has kept trees and nature an essential part of planning the suburban area. Key Revolutionary war and Civil war battles took place nearby, and there are constant historical landmarks.
What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?
I love to write both because they are upbeat and remind us that true love takes time and good guys win.
Who or what inspired you to become an author?
I’ve been an avid reader since I learned to read, and becoming a writer was like breathing. When I was nine years old, my father got me a kid’s typewriter for Christmas, and I began setting my imagination to paper since.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?
I am actually fortunate because I’ve been given the chance to fulfill both of my dreams. I write, but I’m also a horse trainer. It’s my day job.
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!
So many pets… We live on a horse farm, so we have about 15 horses, 2
chickens, 4 cats, 2 dogs, a gecko and a few goldfish. Some of the pets end up in my stories, or I use their names for inspiration.
Have you found your own real life happily ever after?
I met my husband when I was eighteen years old and a sophomore in college. We both went to school at Virginia Tech. It wasn’t that we had any classes together – we actually met at the horse stable where I was riding. He rented a room there. We’ve been inseparable ever since.
What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.
Dracula, by Bram Stoker – This book has gotten a bad reputation as a horror novel. Though it’s full of suspense, it also is full of romance and fantasy and is very much Christian as well. I was rather shocked when I decided to take on the classics and read this one. He inspired me to want to write my Christian fiction in a similar, original way.
