Penny Harmon writes stories that portray people you want to get to know and her characters come to life with fun dialogue and some serious plots. Her goal is to entertain her readers and Penny wants her books to leave her readers with a feeling of satisfaction…she wants them to take something away from her books, whether it is a life lesson or a feeling of peace. Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.

I grew up in a small town near the coast of Maine.  I now live just one town away…still near the coast….and hope to return to my hometown in the next few years.  Living in Maine definitely has advantages.  Whether you want to spend time at the beach or head into the heavy woods, it’s all within driving distance.

What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?

When I first started publishing, I was writing steamier romances, but found myself struggling with them.  The truth was that I was pushing myself to write them, when I prefer to write the sweeter side of romance.  I love writing sweet romances because, for me, it’s all about the emotions.

Who or what inspired you to become an author?

I honestly cannot recall what made me want to become an author because I decided I wanted to be a writer when I was a child.  Of course, it took me awhile to allow others to read what I wrote, but I am finally doing what I love.

If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?

If I could not be an author, I would want to be a recycling artist.  I love to take things and put them to use for something else.  Whether it is simply rehabbing an old bureau or making garden décor out of plates and saucers, I love it!

Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!

We currently have 3 cats and they are something else.  Chubby, our old man, just turned 17 years old and is the sweetest thing you could imagine.  Two years ago, we added two more cats when we got our grandchildren their own kittens.  Pumpkin and Rocky, brother and sister, are so loving to are three grandchildren.  They sleep with them, cuddle them when they are sad, and make our loves so much better.  I can’t image life without these 3 cats.

Have you found your own real life happily ever after?

Absolutely!!!  I have been with my partner Dan for 19 years and am looking forward to what else life has in store for us.  At the moment, we are pretty busy raising 3 grandchildren, but that only adds to the fun!

What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.    To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee is a book that I have read many, many times and, if you haven’t read it, you should.  It is timeless.  It isthe perfect example of a book that delves into human behavior, prejudice, love, hate, and even innocence.  Animal Farm by George Orwell ranks second for me, but it was a really close race between the two.
