Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.

I was born in Kentucky, but grew up in the Alvin, TX area. I don’t really have a hometown per se. I’ve stayed within a 20-mile radius of the same area, but if I ever have the chance to leave Texas, I will!

What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?

I love all of the quirky characters and cool shops.

Who or what inspired you to become an author?

I’ve always enjoyed writing. I’m not sure any one thing in particular inspired me, though Danielle Steele’s Message From ‘Nam was responsible for a very dark and weird turn in my teenage years that led me to be able to recite random war facts, and also my own Vietnam era novel. It was terrible, in case you were wondering.

If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?

I’d probably still be in the military.

Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!

We have a super cute shelter pup who is growing to be an enormous moose. Just yesterday she managed to knock me on my rear.

Have you found your own real life happily ever after?

I did. I met my now husband in 2001, married him in 2003, and we are still together. And still like each other. Almost every day.

What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.

This is a difficult question for someone who reads as much as me. The Book Thief had me ugly sobbing. But…if I had to recommend one, I’d have to say Code Name Verity. If you can see a theme here, you’d realize that I also had a WWII phase in my life. This book follows Verity, a young woman captured by the Gestapo and forced to undergo torture and cruel treatment as the Germans attempt to extricate intel from her. Her best friend is in a desperate search to find her. This tale is both hard to read and unputdownable and at it’s heart is a tale of just how far the bonds of friendship can go.
