Getting to Know Stephanie Damore
Stephanie Damore is a mystery author with a soft spot for romance and humor, too. Her books are fun and flirty, and feature smart and sassy sleuths. Stephanie writes for The Funeral Fakers series. You can learn more about Stephanie and her books here.
Where did you grow up, and where do you live now? Tell us something a lot of people don’t know about your home town.
I grew up in Mid-Michigan and I live there now. In fact, my parents still live in my childhood home and my extended family (parents, siblings, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and a decent number of cousins) all live within 20 minutes of one another. We’re close like that.
What is your favorite part about writing Sweet Romance/ Cozy Mysteries?
I love the challenge of trying to surprise the reader, the plot twist. I love when people never see it coming, but yet, when all is revealed it makes perfect sense. I will always write mysteries. They are my absolute favorite.
Who or what inspired you to become an author?
Have you ever had an idea and you’re not sure where it came from, but it just feels right? That’s me and writing. Not sure when the idea popped in my head, but it’s what I’ve always been even if I wasn’t doing it professionally.
If you weren’t an author, what would you be doing?
I have a couple of degrees, one is in professional and technical writing and the other is a master’s in digital communication. I’ve used these degrees to work as an author, textbook editor (boring!), copywriter, English instructor, and publishing product developer. Communications is at the heart of what I do! I’m sure I’d continue to do something along these lines.
Do you have any pets? Please tell us about them!
I have two doggies. Molly is our dorkie—daschound yorkie mix and Maddy is our Irish
Setter puppy. We also have a kitty named Mia who’s going to be 18 this year. I still can’t believe that one. She doesn’t look or act a day over 5. I also have four kids who are constantly catching all sorts of critters in the woods and bringing them home. Snakes, toads, and turtles are their favorites (but not mine!)
Have you found your own real life happily ever after?
Yes, my husband and I met when were teenagers and have been together ever since. We even went to senior prom together. We just celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary and our 18th year of dating. We both feel that we are each other’s soulmates and are very blessed to have each other.
What is one book that impacted or changed your life that you think everybody should read? Tell us about it.
Love Walked In by Marisa De Los Santos. It just pulls you right in. It’s warm and wonderful, and has stayed with me years later. A beautiful story that reads like poetry, it questions what it means to be a family and what home is. Someday I wish to write a book like that.
